Rauma sawmill boasts state-of-the-art technology and unparalleled efficiency. As the most advanced sawmill in the world and Finland’s largest-ever sawmill investment, it has created benefits for the entire sawmill industry. The value of the investment is approximately EUR 260 million. With its Rauma sawmill, Metsä Fibre has leaped ahead of the rest of the industry in technology, efficiency and operating models. Technological innovations such as machine vision, artificial intelligence and integrated information systems to control sawline functions has resulted in sawn timber of even more consistent quality and cost efficiency.
The maximum sawing speed at Rauma sawmill will be 250 metres per minute. The 110-metre sawline has a capacity of up to 40 logs per minute, making it three times faster than a conventional sawline. A pine log is sawn into sawn timber products in just over a second. The logs are sawn at multiple machinery units in stages and with careful optimisation.
The pioneering approach is also seen in Rauma’s single central control room. In practice, this means that sawn timber passes through the processing line without manual work stages.
A responsible supply chain and data collection that cuts through the whole production chain will ensure that our customers have access to first-class strong Nordic pine sawn timber. The wood we use is traceable.
The production of the sawmill focuses on demanding products such as for the component and woodworking industries. The sawn pine timber is particularly suitable for windows, doors and joinery products, log houses, the furniture industry, industrial planing, high-quality glulam solutions, heat-treated wood and solutions for the packaging industry. Most of the production is exported.
Rauma sawmill is an important employer in southern Satakunta, both directly and indirectly. We cooperate closely with local players.
